El fin de
semana pasado por fin volví a jugar una partida de DBMM tras bastante tiempo
apartado del juego. Decidí jugar con el
último ejército que había pintado y con el que prácticamente no había jugado,
un Inglés de Guerra de las Rosas en su versión Lancaster (4/83). Me enfrenté a
mi amigo David, un maestro del DBMM que llevaba un Chino Yuan (4/48). Mi idea era
comprobar cómo funcionaba este ejército y volver a recuperar la mecánica del
juego.
Tras las pertinentes tiradas iniciales salí como defensor, con un terreno bastante favorable: dos marismas en los laterales de la mesa y dos bosques en mi lado, lo que me permitía cubrir ambos flancos y adoptar una posición defensiva.
Frente a esto, mi contrincante adoptó un despliegue abierto en cuatro mandos: uno grande y otro pequeño de caballería ligera, otro grande concentrando la caballería pesada Reg Cv(S) y otro grande de psilois.
Last weekend
I finally played DBMM again after some time away from the game. I decided to
use the last army that I had painted and which I had almost not played with, a War
of the Roses English in its Lancaster version (4/83). I faced my friend David,
a DBMM master who fielded a Yuan Chinese (4/48). My purpose was to check how did
the army behave and to remember the game mechanics.
After the corresponding initial dicing I resulted to the defender, with a suitable terrain: two marshes in the sides of the table and two woods on the sides of my deployment zone,allowing me to cover my flanks and adopt a defensive position.
In front of this, my opponent opted to use an opened deployment in four commands: one big and one small LH commands, another big command concentrating all the heavy cavalry and a big psiloi command.
Al comienzo
de la partida intentó un doble envolvimiento con los psilois por un lado y el
mando grande de caballería ligera por el otro, mientras el mando pequeño de caballería ligera
y el de caballería pesada fijaban mi frente.
Contesté a
la amenaza de los psilois reordenando mis tropas ligeras para esperarlos,
mientras que realicé un avance general de forma que en el flanco derecho
pudiera detenerlos a la altura de las marismas. Y funcionó. Perdí varios ballesteros, pero la combinación
de fuego de los Bw(S) y Bw(O) junto con una incursión de los psilois en la
marisma consiguió crear suficientes bajas como para hacer retroceder al resto
del mando.
At the beginning of the game he tried a double encirclement with the psiloi command by one side and the big light horse command by the other, while the small light horse command and the heavy cavalry fixed my front.
I answered
the menace of the psilois by redeploying my light troops to wait for them,
while I made a general advance of the line so that the right flank could stop
them near the marshes. And it worked. I lost some crossbowmen, but the
combination of fire from Bw(S) and Bw(O) toghether with a raid of the psilois in
the marsh managed to make enough losses to make the command to recoil.
Seguidamente
retiré las tropas para evitar flancos expuestos y reorganizar mi línea de
batalla.
Straightaway
I retired my troops to avoid exposing flanks and reorganize my battle line.
Entonces
David intentó forzar el otro flanco, apoyando el mando de psiloi con el mando
de caballería ligera. Allí se desarrolló una de los encuentros más enconados de
la batalla, llegando la artillería a rechazar varios ataques de las tropas
ligeras enemigas combatiendo cuerpo a cuerpo. Incluso un solitario Bd(S),
flanqueado y cerca del fin del mundo, consiguió rechazar repetidos ataques de
los psiloi.
Then David
tried to force the other flank, supporting the psiloi command with the light
horse command. There was one of the heatest encounters of the battle, in which
the artillery managed to repulse some attacks from the light troops fighting
hand to hand. Even one solitaire Bd(S), hard flanked and in the end of the
world managed to repel repeated attacks from the psiloi.
Decidí
perseguir al resto de sus tropas de caballería para negarles el terreno, con lo
que el mundo se volvió del revés: la infantería perseguía a la caballería.
I decided to
pursue the remaining cavalry troops to deny them the terrain, in a world turned
upside down: the infantry chased the cavalry.
Finalmente,
la acumulación de bajas entre los mandos ligeros sumados a las bajas del mando
de caballería pesada y su incapacidad para lanzar un ataque coordinado llevaron
a los ingleses a la victoria. También debo confesar que tuve suerte con algunas
tiradas de dados, lo que me permitió salvar combates cruciales.
Un buen
comienzo para los ingleses.
Finally, the
accumulation of losses in the light commands added to the losses in the heavy
cavalry command and the impossibility to launch a coordinated attack drived the
English to the victory. I must confess that I also had luck with some of the
dice, what allowed me to save some crucial fights.
A good
beginning for the English.
